KS Medical Marijuana Defense Act, SB 556
On February 11, the Senate Health Care Strategies committee held a hearing on SB 556 that would allow for legal protections for patients who use, and physicians who recommend marijuana as part of a treatment program for debilitating medical conditions! Unfortunately, the committee chair, Senator Susan Wagle(R-Wichita) did not give the bill a fair hearing, nor will she call a vote to advance the bill to the full Senate.

Kansas State Nurses Association Pass Medical Marijuana Resolution
Substitute declaration supports research, fails to advocate for safe access by patients
"We applaud the organization for advocating research on the medicinal properties of marijuana, which the federal government has obstructed for decades," said KSCCC Director Laura A. Green after the switched vote.
"We have several hundred nurses in our coalition who believe in putting patients first on this issue. We are deeply disappointed for the legitimate medical marijuana patients and their families in Kansas that the KSNA has not called for safe access to therapeutic marijuana/cannabis," said Green. "The serious and terminally ill who use this medicine to relieve their suffering merit respect and understanding from the Kansas State Nurses Association through their resolution process.
